ABOUT
Matei Pouzet is a French composer and pianist best known for Ceux pour qui la Lune ne brille pas and Shaolin Office. Influenced by composers such as John Powell, Joe Hisaishi, John Williams and Hans Zimmer, his music is highly versatile combining narrative depth and memorable melodies. His work includes numerous animated and live action short films. He also assists other composers with orchestration and music production.
Born into a family of artists and travelers, He grew up surrounded by cultural experiences and a deep openness to the world. His childhood was marked by an extraordinary three-year road trip in a camper van from Alaska to Ushuaia.
Drawn equally to the arts and science, Matei Pouzet faced a choice between pursuing engineering and music. Ultimately, he chose both. After graduating from the Ecole des Mines de Saint Etienne, he went on to obtain a master’s degree in film scoring at the Université Lyon II.
With Romanian, Spanish, and French roots, Matei draws inspiration from his rich cultural background and life experiences, allowing him to craft a wide and diverse musical palette. He enjoys exploring a variety of genres, with a strong preference for hybrid music. As both a musician and an engineer, he is also deeply interested in sound research and the creative possibilities it offers.
